Interlibrary Loan  

Before submitting an ILL request, check to be sure the item is not available at IWU or in I-Share.

From your ILLiad account, access the record of the item you wish to renew. If "Renew Request" is not visible at the top of the request, then renewals are not allowed.

Click on "Renew Request" to submit your request.  You will be given a temporary due date until the lender responds to the request.  You will be notified via email once a response is received.

Average ILLiad delivery times:

Copy Requests:   3 days

Loan Requests:  10 days

Patrons should allow 1 week for copy requests and 2 weeks for loans.
(Delivery times are based on FY11/12 statistics)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service by which The Ames Library Document Delivery Department obtains research materials not available in The Ames Library or I-Share.  

Current students, faculty and staff are eligible to use ILL.  Alumni and community members should visit their local public library for service.

Books, chapters, articles and other materials not available in The Ames Library or
I-Share may be requested through ILL.  Reasonable fees associated with obtaining the material are paid by the library.  Textbooks may not be requested through ILL. 

ILLiad (InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database) is the resource sharing management software used by The Ames Library.  The ILLiad system allows you to track your requests, check due dates, renew items, etc..  You will need to fill out a one-time registration form to set up your account.  All ILL requests must be submitted through your ILLiad account.

• Manually:  Login to your ILLiad account and click on the appropriate request form.  Enter the request information and submit!   

OR

• Electronically:  When searching one of the library's electronic databases, click on  and the citation information will be imported into the ILLiad request form (you will be prompted to login to your account).

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
